How much does absenteeism cost your company?
We’ve seen a notable increase in the number of companies interested in offering rewards for staff attendance as a way of reducing the number of working days lost. There’s a lot of information and statistics available about the cost of absenteeism, with one UK source quoting 30.4 million working days lost through non-genuine reasons every year.
According to research, employees in the public sector take more sick days than those in the private sector, an average of 8.1 days a year compared with 5.9 days.
This shows an improvement on last year’s average of 8.3 days and a marked improvement since 2007’s average of 9 days. Even with the noted improvement the figures are startling and it’s not just the lost days that can affect a company; it’s all the other indirect costs of absence, such as lower customer service and lost productivity, that also have an impact.
The issue of managing sickness absence is a complicated and sensitive one and the requirements of each organisation will vary greatly. To date, customers that have implemented employee attendance awards have seen a decline in number of lost working days and have introduced an additional way to motivate their employees.
Our flexible reward format means schemes such as attendance awards can be easily introduced and managed without putting any pressure on internal resources. For more information about how this could work for you, please give us a call on 01625 660 318 or email us on rewardme@cottrills.com.
